Madison Keys was unable to control her tears as she addressed the media following her semifinals defeat at the US Open
Keys, 28, was ousted by No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka in three sets on Thursday.
Sabalenka and Coco Gauff will face off for the women’s title on Saturday.
Also, after losing, Keys found it hard to express her emotions when speaking with reporters.
As a result, tennis fans on social media offered Keys’ support.
After dominating the first set, Keys led 5-3 in the second and served for the match.
After taking a few moments to compose herself, Keys said: “Yeah I just think, being able to take this and turn it into a positive is really possible.” After the press conference , Keys, the No. 17 seed, wept a bit more as she walked off stage.
Tennis fans on social media rallied around Keys after the brutally honest display of emotions.
“I feel gutted for Madison Keys,” one user on X, wrote.
“Omg yes are SWOLLEN. Like that type of crying makes your head hurt I feel so bad,” another person tweeted.
