Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb was taken off the field against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night with a knee injury.
Chubb is likely to have damaged multiple ligaments. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski acknowledged Chubb would be sidelined for the season, but he did not confirm ligament damage without imaging, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
With 14:14 left in the first half, Chubb’s leg collapsed after colliding with Minkah Fitzpatrick on a 5-yard run to the Pittsburgh 3. Fitzpatrick lay down for a few seconds.
Chubb’s injured left knee is the same one he had surgery on after ripping his MCL, PCL, and LCL while at Georgia in 2015.
The Browns’ offence struggled the rest of the game without Chubb. Jerome Ford, his replacement, ran 69 yards to set up a go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter. However, Cleveland never scored again. And Pittsburgh’s second defensive touchdown of the night was the game-winner.
Browns All-Pro guard Joel Bitonio mentioned that the offense’s standout rusher was missed in the second half.
Chubb was given a warm round of applause from the rival Steelers’ fans as he was taken off the field on a medical cart.
Fitzpatrick was also shaken up on the play but remained in the game.
