Novak Djokovic won the men’s singles title at the US Open for the fourth time by upsetting Daniil Medvedev in the final.
Novak Djokovic conquered the Russian in straight sets on Sunday to win his fourth US Open and a record-tying 24th Grand Slam singles title. The 36-year-old Djokovic triumphed 6-3, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 to surpass Margaret Court’s record for most Grand Slam triumphs and become the oldest men’s champion in New York in the Open era.
The Serbian celebrated his upcoming return to the top of the world rankings in a perfect way by becoming the first person to win three Grand Slam titles in the same season four times.
With his fourth title at Flushing Meadows, Djokovic joined Roger Federer as the only players on the men’s side with four or more titles at three different majors.
As per Djokovic, who will reclaim the top spot in the rankings on Monday, “it obviously means the world to me.” The most by any player in the history of the ATP or WTA rankings, it will be his 390th week at the top.
