“One Chip Challenge” company to remove the ‘extremely spicy’ products from stores.
The company behind extremely spicy tortilla chip, Paqui mentioned it is thinking to remove the product from stores as Massachusetts authorities investigate the death of a 14-years teen.
Harris Wolobah, 14, was found unconscious and not breathing earlier this month in Worcester, Massachusetts, and was announced dead at a local hospital, according to local authorities.
Wolobah ate the chip at school and became ill. He was picked up by relatives and started to feel better, but he was later found passed out and taken to a hospital, where he died.
His death is being investigated by a state medical examiner. The cause of Harris Wolobah’s death on Sept. 1 has yet to be determined and an autopsy is pending, but the 14-year-old’s family blamed the ‘‘One Chip Challenge’. Parents in Massachusetts are also getting advisories from authorities on the challenge, which is popular on social media sites like TikTok.

When Lyon tried powder created from the Carolina Reapers, currently the hottest chilies in the world, during their meeting, he was rendered unconscious and decided it would make the “perfect ingredient” for what would become “the world’s spiciest chip,”
Paqui is offering seven different versions of the “One Chip Challenge,” shifting out the peppers it seasoning with each year. The way in which the company presents its product, which this year costs $9.99 for a chip and can be ordered online through merchants like Amazon and eBay
