Madison keys enters US Open Semifinal

Madison Keys created history after she  reached the last four of the US Open after beating Marketa Vondrousova 6-1, 6-4. Keys got out to a blazing start, claiming the opening set in no time, with the Czech being able to win one game. The American tennis star didn’t let up in the second set, either, breaking Vondrousova’s serve twice to win the match 6-1, 6-4.

Keys will face World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka  in her next game.

Early life and background

Keys was born on February 17, 1995, in Rock Island,  in northwestern Illinois. Both her parents Rick and Christine are attorneys, and her father was also an All-American college basketball player at Augustana College. She has an older sister named Sydney and two younger sisters named Montana and Hunter, none of whom play tennis.

Keys’s interest for tennis started at a very young age. Her interest in the sport arose from watching Wimbledon on television when she was four years old. She  started playing tennis at the Quad-City Tennis Club in Moline. She began taking lessons regularly at seven and began competing at the age of nine. At the age of 9 years she moved to Florida with her mother and younger sisters so that she could train at the Evert Tennis Academy founded by John Evert and also partly run by his sister, International Tennis Hall of Famer Chris Evert .

Professional Career

Madison Keys has won seven WTA championships, which are the Eastbourne International (2014), Birmingham Classic (2016), Silicon Valley Classic (2017), Charleston Open (2019), Cincinnati Open (2019), Adelaide International (2022), and Eastbourne International (2023). Her current WTA singles ranking is 17 and her doubles ranking is 543, with career highs of 7 and 56, respectively.

But she hasn’t yet claimed a Grand Slam. Nevertheless, she’s made it all the way to the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2015 and 2022, the French Open in 2018, the US Open finals in 2017, and the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2023. In doubles, she advanced to the French Open 2022 semifinals.

Madison Keys, an American tennis star has a loving boyfriend, Bjorn Fratangelo. He tooo is a professional tennis player who also plays for the United States of America. After dating for 6 years, they just announced their engagement  in March 2023. Both have been together since 2017.
